My name is Ian Colley and I am a working freelance photographer located on the south side of Brisbane, specialising in Real Estate and Architecture photography, however this blog covers all aspects of my photography including my Sport and Landscape photography and any specials that I might have on photos or gallery prints from recent events.
Saturday at Mt Cotton
It was an interesting day at Mt Cotton today. One of the quickest cars, a Westfield Clubman driven by Brian Pettit had a huge crash right in front of me. The car ended up on it's roll cage in between 2 marshalling points so after it stopped moving, about 3 metres away from me, I put the camera down, jumped down to the track and lifted the car up to give Brian some room to crawl out from under it. Then quickly got out of the way of the safety crews and continued to take some more photos.
Brian walked away and apart from being a bit shaken up appeared to be ok, good news. The car however a sustained a fair bit of damage and it may be a while before we see it racing again.

V8 Superboats Round 4
Round 4 of the 2014 V8 Superboat Championships will be held at Cabarita in just over 2 weeks. On Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th of October the Cabarita track will hold their 2nd event this year before the racing moves back down to the southern states to finish the season.
Quite a few of the crews are coming back to Australia after a successful World Series in the USA and hopefully should be in good form when they get to Cabarita.
I have finished the framed gallery print of crashes from the 1st Cabarita round this year (round 3). These are a limited edition print, only 50 to be made and are available for sale at $195 excluding freight and handling. If you would like one, or any of the earlier gallery prints drop me an email.

Round 5 Mt Cotton Hillclimb
Round 5 of the 2014 Trenching Systems Australia and S R Automotive Mt Cotton Hillclimb series is on this weekend.
The weather should be perfect both Saturday and Sunday. If you can, get along, the entry is free, the food is great and cheap and the racing will be entertaining as usual.
Round 4 Mt Cotton Hillclimb
Round 4 of the TSA (Trenching Systems Australia) and SR Automotive Mt Cotton Hillclimb series was run last weekend in nice conditions with the predicted rain holding off all day.
There were plenty of great laps with the usual Ford driving suspects getting plenty of air under the inside fronts and Shane Merrick in that nice little Datsun 1200 coupe one upping them all.
Neil Lewis took out the day with a time of 39.07 in the Top Six run but superb effort of the day goes to Michael von Rappard in the Dallara. He joined the elite 40 second club by posting a 39.62, then 39.38 and finally a 39.23 . Not that far off 38 seconds for Neil and Michael - well done guys.
There were no major incidents on Sunday, a couple of brake lockups and long slides but all ending safely with everyone ready to fight another day.

Rabbit Hole
Last Wednesday I went out and shot dress rehearsals for local community theatre group Villanova Players latest production - "Rabbit Hole". A very emotional play directed by Andrew Heron.
A fellow Olympus shooter and I had the theatre to ourselves as no other photographers came to the dress rehearsals that night. Equipped with EM-1's and 35-100 f2 SHG lenses we blazed away shooting in some very testing conditions, low and constantly changing light. The cameras proved to be up to the task perfectly, with focussing never an issue. The EM-1 is easily the equal of the E5 and surpassing it in many areas including, I find, focussing speed and accuracy, focussing into the sun the only area where I find the E5 beats it.
That 35-100 really is superb glass.
